Also known as the rattlesnake plant, this calathea has long, wavy-edged leaves patterned with dark blotches along a paler green background, echoing the markings on its namesake. The undersides carry a deep maroon-purple that shows through as the leaves move.
It likes steady warmth, humidity and a spot out of direct sun, away from cold draughts or heating vents. Keep the mix lightly moist and use rainwater or filtered water where possible to keep the leaf edges from browning.
