The classic snake plant, its stiff upright leaves banded in dark green and edged with a bright yellow margin. Few indoor plants are tougher: it copes with low light, dry air and a fairly relaxed watering schedule, making it a solid choice for a first indoor plant or a spot you tend to forget.
Grow in a free-draining mix and let it dry out fully between waterings, since overwatering is the main way to lose one. A bright spot brings out the strongest colour, though it manages in shadier corners too.
