We don't sell this plant online — living stock moves too fast to promise. Visit the nursery or call us to check what's on the benches this week.
The black bat plant is grown for one of the strangest flowers in the garden: a near-black bloom shaped like a bat in flight, trailing long thread-like whiskers that can reach 30cm or more. The glossy foliage is handsome in its own right between flowerings.
It wants warmth, humidity and protection from direct sun and frost, so a sheltered, shaded courtyard spot or a large pot that can move undercover in cold weather suits it best. Rich, free-draining soil that holds some moisture is ideal.
